Building a Blog #01 – What I’m Playing Right Now

This is eventually going to be a retro video game and physical media blog, but I’m committed to posting a weekly blog or journal until I have planned out more consistent, themed content. So for now I am going to keep posting what games I’ve been playing, and movies I’m watching etc. as I continue to design my blog and get a feel for writing down my thoughts!

These last couple weeks I have been playing a ton of Cyberpunk 2077 (finally, I know) on Xbox. It’s great, definitely scratching both a Witcher 3 itch, and it feels like a giant Bethesda-style RPG (complimentary.) I want to finish the story soon and as much of the side content as I can before I get bored, but it’s such a big time commitment that I wanted to mix in some more bite-sized games while I play.

So I’m playing Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart on PS5 to keep from getting burned out on too much Cyberpunk. I love Rift Apart so far, and I didn’t grow up with a PS2 so it has me wanting to check out the originals as well as the Jak & Daxter and Sly Cooper games. It’s nice playing a game with more traditional levels and light exploring and collectibles, when it feels like every game nowadays has to be a giant experience with multiple RPG systems tacked on. Rift Apart has great gameplay, with fun shooting and platforming, and a fun story whose world and characters keep me coming back.

I’ll be back next week with my first Halloween blog of the month, play some actual retro games and dust off a couple horror VHS tapes. And I’ll keep tweaking the website design in the meantime to keep some creative juices flowing.
