20 Years of the Xbox 360

Revisiting and Cataloguing the Legendary Console’s Library

2025 has come and gone, and with it the 20th anniversary of the Xbox 360 has passed with seemingly little fanfare. Microsoft’s second console will always have a place in my gaming heart (its lifespan overlapped entirely with me going into middle school all the way to my freshman year of college) and I wanted to use my blog as a project to both memorialize the 360’s vast library of classic titles and forgotten gems, as well as tackle a big chunk of my physical backlog this year.

At this point I have over 140 Xbox 360 games on disc that I will eventually play and rank for this blog.

I grew up an original Xbox kid, and the Xbox platforms have remained my choice of console for playing third-party games to this day (I am one of the few dinosaurs still buying Series X and PS5 games on disc instead of digitally.) I will be playing all of my 360 games on disc on my 2013 black E model console to get in the proper mid-2000’s state of mind. Unfortunately for my nostalgia, sacrifices had to be made, as my classic white and silver 360’s have long ago bitten the dust, gone the way of the fabled Blades™ dashboard. This project may evolve as the year goes on, but I plan to score each game in a few fun categories and keep a master ranking of each title I play. Think more “pick-up-and-play” gameplay, style of world and exploration, and less emphasis on graphics snobbery or having unlimited hours of playtime.

I plan on posting a write-up showcasing a different 360 game I am playing every week for the rest of the year, so check back this Sunday to see which one I am checking out first!
